Whimsical
Although my work is figurative, it is often has a fantasy element or a humorous, ironic twist. The titles of the pieces add to this element and the humour often has a more serious intent. People often ask me “what are you on? I have never tried illicit drugs and don’t drink and, given my overactive imagination and vivid dreams I am reluctant to do so. Life is interesting enough as it is and I am never short of creative ideas, quite the opposite, in fact. I have a strong background in literature and my work has been described as conceptual or illustrative I would dearly love the opportunity to illustrate literature. I enjoy metaphor, simile the use of symbols, themes and language in my life and artwork and think about these elements when conceiving and executing my work. I appreciate synchronicity and “patterns” and have a very “Right Brain” way of seeing the world, often perceiving relationships between logically unrelated scenarios which have some significance and meaning to me. This emerges in my paintings and if I am lucky and “successful “with my work the viewer of my work “gets it” too. That is the challenge and the joy –to make that connection.
