About The Artist

Kathryn was born in Cambridge, England in 1960 where her Australian parents were based while her father, Professor David Green, completed his P.H.D. in Geology. The family returned to Australia in 1962 and since then Kathryn has lived in Australia apart from a year spent in Norway and travel to Japan, New Caledonia and the U.S.A.
Her early years were spent in Canberra and Hobart and she is the oldest of six children. Fortunately her mother, Helen, was able to be a “stay-at-home, motherly mother” and this provided stability and enabled a strong emphasis on family life. Academic pursuits were encouraged as well as an interest in music, theatre and dance, literature, art and craft.
There was also a strong emphasis on family life and friendships, influences and themes of this artist's work can be found in these early years, particularly her interest in family relationships and the conflict of the needs of the individual and the family. The constant exposure to a larger world view in the form of her father’s travels and many visits to her home by academics from overseas fostered her interest in people, music, dance and other cultures.
