Persephone
I’m not sure who Persephone is. One day her image appeared in my head and for some "deep psychological" reason she continues to appear in my work. Since then Persephone has become entertaining and a person in her own right. An explanation of her "mystical” appearance in my work was found when I discovered her in the form of Wendy Whitley’s great bottom at an exhibition of Brett Whitley’s work one day. It seems my subconscious had absorbed this great shape when browsing an art book and it later emerged in my work, without my awareness. I don’t regard this as plagiarism as I believe every artist is influenced by the world around them and the artists that have preceded them. This is unavoidable. Persephone has come to me as a symbol of contentment, resolution and happiness.
